Next, he explains cultivating the Path to sever sensation; the text has brief and broad [treatments]. In the brief, there are five clauses: 1. Inferring where craving and sensation cease; 2. Through contemplation, immediately knowing: seeing that there is a slight cessation, one immediately knows there must be a place of ultimate cessation; 3. Generating faith through knowing; 4. Inferring the cause of liberation, knowing it comes from the eightfold noble [path]; 5. Having known it, properly cultivating it. Below, he reveals it broadly: "What are the eightfold noble [path]?" questions the preceding to introduce what follows, and below distinguishes it in response. The text has five distinct parts: 1. Contemplating that the three sensations can increase body and mind; 2. Contemplating the causes of sensation; 3. Re-contemplating sensation; 4. Contemplating the fruits of sensation; 5. Severing and eliminating in accordance with what is known. In the first section, he first mentions the three sensations, next lists their names, and then reveals the three faults that can increase body and mind.
