10.98

上來第一直觀漏因。「是故我於經中說」等，舉昔所說，明須觀因。是前觀漏有利益故，我說應當觀漏及因。「何以」下釋。於中無明下觀之失，先問、後辨。後明觀益，先問、後辨。辨中，初法、次喻、後合。

The above is the first: directly contemplating the cause of the outflows. "Therefore I said in the sūtra" and so forth cites what was formerly said to clarify the necessity of contemplating the cause. Because contemplating the outflows earlier has benefit, I said that one should contemplate the outflows and their causes. From "why" onwards, he explains. Herein, regarding the fault of not contemplating below ignorance, he first asks, then discerns. Afterwards, he clarifies the benefit of contemplation; first asking, then discerning. In the discernment, first the dharma, next the simile, and afterwards the application.
