From here below, third, for those [points] that are difficult to understand, question and answer clarify them again. To clarify the previous meaning of causing others to be without sores or warts, there are two questions and answers: First, inquiring in terms of the metaphor: "Does a worldly physician heal all sores or not?" The Buddha answers: it is not fixed. Next, raising an objection in terms of the Dharma, [Kāśyapa] first cites the Buddha's words, and below raises the objection based on them: "If you say they have already been healed, why are there those who have not yet attained nirvāṇa? If they have not all attained it, why did you say above, 'having healed these, he wishes to go to another region'?" The Buddha answers: it is not fixed. First he adduces two persons, next lists their names, and then in terms of those persons explains the healed and the unhealed. From "except the icchantika" below, he sets aside those not healed, and in terms of those healed concludes the meaning of nirvāṇa being without sores or warts. From the verses up to this point clarifies the locus of liberation.
