In the second section: 'The physician examined the king's illness and found that he should use milk' means examining the illness to determine the medicine. The illness of non-self cannot be cured without the self; hence it says 'should use.' From 'He promptly addressed the king' downward directly expounds the self for him, within which there are three [points]: first, the parable of bestowing the true self. Second, from 'What I previously [said]' downward disparages the past and praises the present to lead people to joyfully accept it. 'That I previously stopped [the use of] milk was false speech' disparages the past. He calls his own earlier words stopping milk 'false speech,' or one may call the milk medicine previously stopped 'false speech,' because it was the false-speech medicine of that former physician; since his teaching confounded the genuine, it is disparaged. 'If you take it now, it will be best able to eliminate the illness' praises the present. Third, from 'The king now suffers' downward makes the illness manifest and reveals the remedy, leading people to accept it in faith.
