Within the Dharmas to be studied, first, in contrast to the retributive fruits of the five matters above in the section on Cunda, he asks about the cause of bodhi: "Why does he further manifest ultimate nirvāṇa?" Below, in contrast to the fruit of nirvāṇa in the previous section on the "Lamentation," he asks about its cause. Bodhi is produced from a producing cause, while nirvāṇa is attained by a revealing cause; therefore, they are questioned separately. In the former, there are two parts: (1) teaching the practices by which worthy and noble ones proceed toward bodhi, meaning teaching the śrāvakas to proceed toward great bodhi; (2) from "How for those who have not yet generated the mind [for awakening]" below, explaining the teaching of practices by which ordinary beings proceed toward bodhi. In the former, there are again three parts: (1) asking about the practice of cultivating and training in accordance with conditions; (2) from "How do the tamers" below, asking about the practice of relinquishing marks and entering realization; (3) from "How does sharing noble practice" below, asking about the practice of realizing reality and fulfilling the fruit, also called the practice of realizing reality and activating function. In the former question on the practice of cultivating and training in accordance with conditions, he first asks about the essence of the practice in contrast to the five fruits; from "How does one attain vastness and become a refuge for the assembly?" below, he asks about that upon which the practice relies. First, stating "How is long life attained?" asks about the cause of attaining it in contrast to the long life mentioned earlier, not asking about its fruit. Below, the answer is that it is attained through compassion and non-killing.
