2.81

上問行體，下問所依。於中兩偈，初之一偈正問所依，「云何得廣大，為眾作依止」。人雖實非諸佛羅漢，而能化益與佛羅漢化功等者，我等依之。下答四依，是其人也。後之一偈問所不依，「云何知魔為眾留難」問其邪人，邪人濫聖，故問捨之。「佛說魔說云何別知」問其邪法，邪法濫正，故問捨之，下佛具辯。

Above, the essence of the practice was asked; below, that upon which it relies is asked. Within this there are two verses. The first verse directly asks about that upon which one relies: "How does one attain vastness and become a refuge for the assembly?" Although a person is not actually a buddha or an arhat, yet can transform and benefit with transformational efficacy equal to that of a buddha or an arhat—we rely on such a one. Below, the answer is the four refuges; these are that person. The latter verse asks about that upon which one does not rely: "How does one know Māra creates impediments for the assembly?" asks about heterodox persons; heterodox persons confound the noble ones, and therefore he asks in order to abandon them. "How are the Buddha's preaching and Māra's preaching distinguished?" asks about heterodox teachings; heterodox teachings confound the correct, and therefore he asks in order to abandon them; below, the Buddha fully explains.
