Saying "How is the vajra body attained?" asks about the cause of form, likewise not asking about the fruit. This single "how" covers questions about two matters; below, the answer is that it is attained through the conditions of protecting the Dharma. "By what cause again is firm strength attained?" asks about the cause of attaining it in contrast to the fruit of strength above; in the text below, it is answered together with the body. "How does one ultimately reach the other shore in the sūtras?" asks about the cause of peace and bliss. This sūtra fundamentally reveals the fruit of permanence and bliss; the fruit of permanence and bliss is the essential purport of the sūtra, called the other shore of the sūtras, and only upon reaching the other shore of the sūtras does one attain peace and bliss. How does one reach the other shore of this sūtra? Below, the Buddha answers: by upholding the name and virtues of this sūtra, one immediately reaches it; reaching it to the utmost is said to be "ultimate." "May you open the subtle and secret and expound it widely for living beings" asks about the cause of eloquence. Relying on the six-fascicle sūtra, this question is somewhat implicit; the six-fascicle sūtra says: "How many kinds of ways does a bodhisattva preach the Dharma for sentient beings?" Below, the Buddha answers: the virtues of being able to preach are fourfold: being personally upright, rectifying others, being able to answer according to questions, and having good understanding of causes and conditions. The Dharmas preached are threefold: dharmakāya, liberation, and mahāprajñā. Comparing that with this, this question is somewhat abbreviated. If complete, it should say: "May the Buddha open the subtle and secret, and may bodhisattvas, relying on this Dharma, expound it widely for sentient beings." Therefore, in the text below the Buddha opens the three matters to let bodhisattvas preach them; because of preaching for others, they attain eloquence.
