2.96

自下第三如來讚問。「善哉」總嘆，下別嘆之。別中有三：一嘆所問上同如來、二嘆所問中等菩薩、三嘆所問下益眾生。就初嘆中，初明迦葉智未同佛；後彰迦葉問等如來，所以可嘆。第二嘆中，「我坐道場亦曾問」等，舉《華嚴》中菩薩問也。「然其所問句義功德等無異」者，彰彼同此，彼中所問佛因、佛果共此不殊。第三可知。

From here below is the third part: the Tathāgata praises the question. "Excellent!" is a general praise, and below he praises it specifically. Within the specific there are three: first, praising the question as matching the Tathāgata above; second, praising the question as equalling the bodhisattvas in the middle; third, praising the question as benefiting sentient beings below. Within the first praise, it first explains that Kāśyapa's wisdom is not yet identical to the Buddha's; later it reveals that Kāśyapa's question equals the Tathāgata, which is why it is praiseworthy. In the second praise, "When I sat at the place of awakening, I also once asked," and so on, cites the questions of bodhisattvas in the Avataṃsaka. "Yet the sentences, meanings, and merits questioned are equal and without difference" reveals that that equals this, and the buddha-cause and buddha-fruit questioned therein are not different from this. The third can be known.
