問曰；何故前教聲聞降魔憑依不教菩薩，此為菩薩不為聲聞？解云；此等舉之左右，前者就本說為聲聞，今以習大名為菩薩。

Question: Why did he previously teach śrāvakas to subdue māras and rely on [the four persons] without teaching bodhisattvas, while here it is for bodhisattvas and not for śrāvakas? Answer: These are raised from two perspectives: the former spoke of them as śrāvakas according to their original status, while now, because they practice the Mahāyāna, they are called bodhisattvas.
