前中四句：一就人語明了義經、二結可依、三「若有戒」下汎就教法明了義經、四結可依。初中，「若言如來憐愍善知時宜，說輕為重、說重為輕」，略明了義。時別有四，如下具辯。於此時中，若有檀越豐，非護法，不為淨施，受畜一切不淨之物，佛說為重，翻此名輕。

In the former [section], there are four phrases: first, explaining the definitive sūtras with respect to the person's words; second, concluding what can be relied upon; third, from "If there are precepts..." downward, generally explaining the definitive sūtras with respect to the teaching; fourth, concluding what can be relied upon. In the first, "If one says that the Tathāgata, in his pity, well understands the appropriateness of the time, explaining the light as grave and the grave as light," briefly clarifies the definitive meaning. The times are divided into four, fully analyzed below. In these times, if there are donors in abundance, yet it is not to protect the Dharma and is not done by pure donation, and [a monk] receives and keeps any impure items, the Buddha explains this as grave; the reverse of this is termed light.
