In the sixth pair, stating that the Buddha was not endowed with various skills and arts is deviant, in which there are six [points]: first, preaching that the Tathāgata entered the shrine of the devas in order to worship the devas—from "The reason he entered..." downward adduces the correct to reveal the deviant, and from "If one says that he did not..." downward refutes the deviant to reveal the correct, for if one says that the Tathāgata did not enter the shrine of the devas to tame devas and humans, such a statement contradicts reason and has no basis; second, preaching that the Tathāgata could not enter into the non-Buddhist treatises or understand their deportment, literary composition, and technical arts; third, preaching that the Tathāgata could not harmonize the disputes of servants; fourth, preaching that the Tathāgata was not revered by men, women, kings, and ministers; fifth, preaching that the Tathāgata did not know how to compound all medicines, wherein first it clarifies his lack of knowledge, next clarifies that because of his lack of knowledge he is called a Tathāgata, and finally clarifies that if he knew he would fall into wrong views; sixth, preaching that the Tathāgata could only abide in moderation and could not fully possess various skillful means to accord with the worldly.
