3.71

In the third passage, "when that king obtained it" means that when the master of conversion in the borderland himself heard the scriptural Dharma, he immediately distributed it; "the whole country ate it" means encouraging others to practice it together; from "after the people had eaten" onward, the converted people feel gratitude and praise it with joy; practicing in compliance with the teaching is called having eaten it; rejoicing in being touched by the benefit of the Dharma is why all were joyful; receiving and feeling gratitude for the kindness of the four refuges in propagating conversion is therefore why all said, "Because of that king, we obtained rare food."
