3.86

上來明其善趣已上菩薩護法，下次明其初心護法。句別有三：一明現在初發心者當能護法；二「是故」下勸人識知，為勵初心，故勸知之；三「何以」下釋。

The above has clarified the protection of the Dharma by bodhisattvas at or above the good destinies; next it clarifies the protection of the Dharma by those of the initial mind. There are three distinct clauses: first, it explains that those who initially arouse the mind in the present will be able to protect the Dharma; second, from "therefore" downward exhorts people to recognise and know this, exhorting them to know it in order to encourage the initial mind; third, from "why is that" downward explains it.
