下一復次明大過小，先喻、後合。喻中，「良醫」喻《涅槃經》，「過八術」者明大過小，「能除病苦」喻治煩惱，「不治必死」除却闡提。合喻可知。

The next "furthermore" clarifies that the great surpasses the small, first with a metaphor and then an application. In the metaphor, "skilled physician" illustrates the Nirvāṇa Sūtra; "surpassing the eight arts" clarifies that the great surpasses the small; "can eliminate the suffering of illness" illustrates treating afflictions; "does not treat those destined to die" sets aside the icchantika. The application of the metaphor can be understood.
