4.233

上來第一問性無差，如來廣釋。自下第二問性有差，如來廣解。性體雖一，約緣有異，故須辯之。於此文中有三問答：初問性差，如來遍就聖人答之；第二迦葉就凡重問，如來為辯；第三以凡對聖為難，如來為釋。

Above was the first part, questioning the non-distinction of nature, which the Tathāgata broadly explained. From here, the second part questions whether nature has distinctions, which the Tathāgata broadly resolves. Although the essence of the nature is one, according to conditions there are differences, and thus it must be clarified. In this text there are three exchanges of question and answer: first, questioning the distinction of nature, which the Tathāgata answers entirely with respect to noble ones; second, Kāśyapa questions again with respect to ordinary beings, which the Tathāgata clarifies for him; third, raising an objection by contrasting ordinary beings with noble ones, which the Tathāgata resolves.
