次文殊問，先總明佛所說不盡，請說因緣，「何以故」下隨別以徵，言何以故，徵前起後。「如長者」下顯不盡相。於中，先明初偈有餘，文別有三：一舉學以徵、二「如王子」下舉不學以徵、三「是故」下結非昔說。

Next, Mañjuśrī questions it: first, generally clarifying that what the Buddha spoke was not exhaustive, and requesting him to state the causes and conditions; from "why is this" onward, challenging in detail according to the parts—the phrase "why is this?" interrogates the preceding and introduces what follows. From "like an elder's" onward reveals the mark of non-exhaustiveness. Therein, first he clarifies that the first verse is non-final, in three textual sections: first, adducing learning to challenge; second, from "like a prince" onward, adducing not learning to challenge; third, from "therefore" onward, concluding with the negation of what was spoken in the past.
