中三對中，初對約就我無我見以別斷常、第二約就常無常見、第三約就苦樂二見。就初對中，「若言諸法皆無有我」牒前無我，生死、涅槃二俱無我，故曰皆無。「即是斷見」結斷異常。「若言我住」牒前我見，「即是常見」結常異斷。

Among the middle three pairs, the first pair distinguishes annihilation and permanence with reference to the views of self and non-self; the second pair does so with reference to the views of permanence and impermanence; the third pair does so with reference to the two views of suffering and pleasure. In the first pair, 'if one says that all dharmas are without self' repeats the preceding non-self: both saṃsāra and nirvāṇa are devoid of self, hence it says 'all are without.' 'This is the view of annihilation' concludes that annihilation differs from permanence. 'If one says that self abides' repeats the preceding view of self; 'this is the view of permanence' concludes that permanence differs from annihilation.
