In the former part, there is first an analogy, and afterwards an application to reveal the Dharma. The text of the analogy has five points: first, the analogy of a bodhisattva in the past expounding the true self and sentient beings getting to hear it; second, from 'the prince later took hold of this' onward, the analogy of moving to transform another land; third, from 'thereupon this poor person later at another' onward, the analogy of pursuing the name and falsely clinging to it; fourth, from 'a bystander heard' onward, the analogy of the four fruits of the śrāvaka examining the sentiment and demanding the reality; fifth, from 'the formerly fled prince, from the other country' onward, the analogy of the sage returning to original conversion and distinguishing the false from the correct.
