The preceding exposition of the four truths and the two truths as one reality constitutes the first section, which uses words to reveal reality and enable people to realize and enter it. From here below, the second section brushes away words to reveal quiescence, enabling people to relinquish attachment. Within this there are three parts: first, Mañjuśrī grasps marks and utters praise to initiate the exchange; second, the Tathāgata responds with words to refute and dispel [those marks]; third, Mañjuśrī clarifies the purpose of his question, explaining that he himself understands and [spoke only] for the sake of others. In the first part, when Mañjuśrī heard the preceding teaching on the four truths and the two truths as one reality, his mind was deeply gladdened, and so he uttered praise. Within this are three phrases: first, he grasps the mark of the Tathāgata entering parinirvāṇa; second, he grasps the mark of the Tathāgata turning the wheel of the Dharma; third, he grasps the mark of [his] turning the unsurpassable [wheel] anew. When the Buddha first achieved realization in the past at Vārāṇasī, he had already turned [the wheel of] the four truths; now, upon entering nirvāṇa, he expounds them once again. Therefore [Mañjuśrī] now praises him, saying that as the Tathāgata approaches parinirvāṇa, he only now turns the unsurpassable wheel of the Dharma anew, making such an analysis of the true truths.
