From here onward is the second [part], which, by means of Kāśyapa, clarifies that upholding [the sūtra] brings benefit. Kāśyapa first vows to propagate the sūtra himself, and afterwards the Buddha approves. Within the former, there are three parts: first, Kāśyapa receives the Buddha's previous words to reveal the supremacy of the sūtra; second, from "I hear" downward, it clarifies that worldly people who do not study it are foolish; third, from "I now" downward, he personally vows to propagate it widely. Within this, he first wishes to copy, recite, and thoroughly master it himself, saying "peeling off skin to make paper" and so forth to clarify the depth of his love and reveal the supremacy of the sūtra. From "thereafter" onward, he transforms others to make them uphold it, first explaining it for them. From "if there are sentient beings who are greedily attached" downward, he gathers them to make them accept it, within which there are six clauses: the first clause gathers them through generosity; the second through kind speech; the latter four through beneficial conduct, with none for shared work omitted. In the beneficial conduct: first, from "toward ordinary people" downward, compelling them through awe to read it; second, serving the arrogant with respect to make them study it; third, subduing the slanderous to make them read it; fourth, praising those who delight in it to make them study it.
