In the third [part], seeking the latter half-verse, the bodhisattva makes six requests, and the rākṣasa gives six replies: first, requesting the recitation of the verse and seeking to become his disciple, but the rākṣasa excuses himself on grounds of hunger and is unwilling to speak it for him; second, asking what he eats, but the other fears frightening people and is unwilling to say immediately; third, the bodhisattva asks again, and the rākṣasa then speaks; fourth, requesting the recitation of the verse with the promise of abandoning his body for him, but the other hears this and does not believe it; fifth, the bodhisattva demonstrates his genuine capability, and the other hears this, orders him to listen, and promises to proclaim it for him; sixth, from "I at that time heard this matter" onward, he arranges a seat and requests again, and [the rākṣasa] then recites it for him. Therein, he first directly recites the verse for him, and in the prose after the verse urges him to abandon his body; the text may be known throughout.
