5.255

第二訪求說人之中，句別有四：一求說人舉髮顧視，「向偈誰說」略求說人，「爾時亦」下唯見羅剎，「誰開」已下廣訪說人，「我於爾」下唯見羅剎；二「復作念」下知是羅剎，先疑彼說，「覆復」已下疑其不堪，「我於爾」下重疑彼說；三「我今當」下正往請問，初思欲問，次身往彼，後便正問；四「我問是已即答我」下彼聞拒諱。

In the second [part], searching for the speaker, there are four distinct clauses: first, seeking the speaker by lifting his hair and looking around—"Who spoke that verse?" is briefly seeking the speaker; from "at that time, [I] also" onward, he saw only the rākṣasa; from "Who opened" onward, he broadly sought the speaker; from "I at that time" onward, he saw only the rākṣasa; second, from "again thought" onward, knowing it to be a rākṣasa, he first doubted that he had spoken; from "again" onward, he doubted his competence; from "I at that time" onward, he again doubted that he had spoken; third, from "I should now" onward, he directly went to inquire: first conceiving the desire to ask, next physically approaching him, and then directly asking; fourth, from "having asked this, he replied to me" onward, the other heard and refused.
