四對治不同，故立四種。「修慈斷貪、修悲斷瞋、喜斷不樂、捨除貪恚」是其治也。

Fourth, because their antidotes are different, four kinds are established. "Cultivating benevolence eliminates greed; cultivating compassion eliminates hatred; sympathetic joy eliminates discontent; equanimity removes greed and malice" are their antidotes.
