5.351

下廣顯之。先廣無依，句別有八：一不為怖而行布施；二不為名；三不為利；四不求人天所受快樂；五不生憍慢，謂於受者及他人所不起慢高；六不望前人現在反報；七不誑他，以其實物如實施與；八不求富貴。此之八句廣上無依。此八句中，第五不慢、第七不誑廣顯無過，餘顯無顧。

First, it broadly explains non-reliance, with eight distinct clauses: first, not practicing giving out of fear; second, not for fame; third, not for gain; fourth, not seeking the joy experienced by humans and devas; fifth, not giving rise to pride, meaning not raising arrogance toward the recipient or toward other people; sixth, not expecting the person before one to repay in the present; seventh, not deceiving others, giving real goods as they truly are; eighth, not seeking wealth and nobility. These eight clauses broadly explain the above non-reliance. Among these eight clauses, the fifth (not being arrogant) and the seventh (not deceiving) broadly reveal being without fault, and the rest reveal being without backward glance.
