自下第三不同凡夫為生造因，先喻、後合。喻中有二：一喻菩薩知生有死，不為造因；二「即作言」下喻凡不知，為生造業。前中四句：一喻說人舉果觀求、二「有人遠」下喻明菩薩聞說審問、三「食主答」下喻明說者嘆生辨死、四「是人聞」下喻明菩薩聞說厭離。

From here below is the third, [showing that he is] not like the ordinary person who creates causes for the sake of birth, with the parable first and the application after. Within the parable there are two: first, allegorizing that the bodhisattva knows that birth entails death and does not create causes for its sake; second, from "Immediately spoke these words" downward, allegorizing that ordinary people, unaware, create karma for the sake of birth. In the former there are four clauses: first, allegorizing the speaker holding up the fruit to observe what is sought; second, from "A person coming from afar" downward, allegorizing that the bodhisattva, hearing the explanation, inquires into it; third, from "The owner of the food answered" downward, allegorizing that the speaker praises birth and distinguishes death; fourth, from "This person, having heard" downward, allegorizing that the bodhisattva, hearing the explanation, loathes and turns away from it.
