From here below, Kāśyapa, having heard what was previously taught, feels grateful and offers praise; the sūtra compiler first introduces this, and next lists the words of praise. The words comprise four verses: The first two correspond to "those who slander incur transgression" above, praising the Buddha's ability to save; the latter two correspond to the Tathāgata discriminating the dharmas of knowing, seeing, and perceiving to enable bodhisattvas to know them, praising the Buddha's ability to benefit. Among the first two verses, the first half-verse praises the Buddha's possession of loving-kindness, and the latter one and a half verses praise the Buddha's possession of compassion. Being skilled at extracting all poisons, he is therefore called the Great Physician, explaining that regarding those who are not yet cured, the Tathāgata can cure them. The latter one verse explains that regarding those already cured, the Buddha causes [the disease] not to arise again; therein, the first half raises the inferior to reveal the superior, and the latter half-verse discriminates how the superior surpasses the inferior. Among the latter two verses, the first verse relies on an analogy to reveal the dharma, and the latter verse directly offers praise in terms of the dharma itself.
