Within concentration there are three phrases: first, concluding the preceding and introducing what follows: "The precepts having become pure, one next cultivates pure concentration." Second, clarifying the benefits of cultivation, which benefits are of two kinds: first, the benefit of attaining correct mindfulness without forgetfulness: "Next, because of cultivating concentration, one's correct mindfulness is not forgotten" presents the general topic, while from "namely" downward are the particulars—"all having the nature" is the dharma of principle, "the twelve-division scriptures" is the dharma of teaching, "the Buddhas, the World-Honoured Ones, being permanent, blissful, self, and pure" is the dharma of the fruit, and "dwelling peacefully in the vaipulya, seeing the buddha-nature completely" is the dharma of practice; one remembers these four dharmas without forgetting them; second, the benefit of attaining pure wisdom that realizes emptiness: "Because of cultivating concentration, one attains the eleven emptinesses." These two together constitute the second part, the benefits of cultivation. Third, the conclusion from "This is called" downward.
