6.187

施中初問，次辯其相，後指雜葉。辯中有四：一略辯施能能為阿耨三菩提因、二「佛菩薩親近修」下起意修習、三「若不施」下廣辯施能、四「佛菩薩修集」已下起意修集。第三能中，有其四種：一能嚴四眾，以財攝故，四眾敬從，故曰能嚴；二能伏煩惱；三為十方眾生稱讚；四能得果，謂得常、樂、我、淨四義，辯力無礙。

In giving, first is a question, next an analysis of its characteristics, and finally it points to miscellaneous sections. In the analysis there are four parts: 1. briefly analyzing the power of giving, capable of being the cause for anuttarā samyaksambodhi; 2. from 'the buddhas and bodhisattvas draw near and cultivate' onward, generating the intention to cultivate and practice; 3. from 'if one does not give' onward, extensively analyzing the power of giving; 4. from 'the buddhas and bodhisattvas cultivate and accumulate' onward, generating the intention to cultivate and accumulate. In the third, its powers, there are four kinds: 1. able to adorn the four assemblies: because they are gathered through wealth, the four assemblies revere and follow, hence called 'able to adorn'; 2. able to subdue afflictions; 3. praised by the sentient beings of the ten directions; 4. able to attain the fruit, namely attaining the four meanings of permanence, bliss, self, and purity, with unobstructed power of eloquence.
