From the beginning of the chapter up to this point, pure conduct has been broadly discussed; below, the excellence of the sūtra is praised to lead people to cultivate and study it. Within this, first the extraordinary excellence of the sūtra is praised to lead people to cultivate and study it; from "The unsurpassed Buddha-Dharma will abide for a long time" downward, the flourishing and decline of the sūtra are explained to lead people to protect and uphold it. In the former part there are two sections: first, directly praising the Dharma as it is; second, from "For what reason are they also called inconceivable bodhisattvas?" downward, revealing its excellence with reference to persons. In the former, the Tathāgata first compares this sūtra to the other, lesser sūtras to reveal its excellence, and Kāśyapa subsequently receives and understands it. In the former, it first states: "If my disciples receive the twelve divisions and also receive and uphold the Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra without difference," and "Not so" directly makes the comparison to reveal its excellence; from "Why?" downward provides the explanation; from "For this reason" downward concludes. Below this, Kāśyapa receives understanding and expresses praise: "Nirvāṇa is inconceivable" receives and praises the aforementioned sūtra; "The Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha are inconceivable" expresses praise for what has been preached; "Bodhisattvas are inconceivable" expresses praise for the persons who cultivate; "Bodhi and nirvāṇa are inconceivable" praises what those persons attain.
