In the bodhisattva's peace, the first four verses are sleeping peacefully through one's own practice; the latter one and a half verses are sleeping peacefully through external transformation. Among the first four verses, the first three leave behind karma, and the latter one explains leaving behind afflictions and suffering. Among the former, the first verse explains leaving behind vocal evil: the mind has no grasping, does not love one's own body, stays far away from enemies, and does not hate other people—these two explain leaving behind the causes of harsh speech; "always harmonious and without dispute" directly leaves behind the faults of speech. The second verse explains leaving behind mental evil: "If one does not commit evil" explains leaving behind faults; "the mind is ever ashamed and remorseful, believing that evil has retribution" explains restraint and remedy. The third verse explains leaving behind bodily evil: "reverently nourishing parents and not harming living beings" explains leaving behind killing; "not stealing others' goods" explains leaving behind stealing, with leaving behind sexual misconduct omitted. In the fourth verse, "taming the sense faculties and drawing near to good spiritual friends" explains restraint and remedy; "destroying the four māras" explains leaving behind hindrances: "destroying the kleśa-māra" explains leaving behind afflictions; "destroying the skandha-[māra] and destroying death-[māra]" shows leaving behind suffering; "destroying the deva-māra" explains leaving behind the causes and conditions of afflictions and suffering.
