From here below is the second part: the Buddha's light shines and touches him to receive and encourage him. Within this there are four sections: first, the Buddha enters samādhi and emits light that shines on the king, and the king feels his sores heal; second, question and answer distinguishing where the light comes from; third, question and answer clarifying the intention of the light's coming; fourth, explaining the name and meaning of the radiant light. The first section is clear. In the second section there are two questions and answers: First, the king suspects it is an unusual light and inquires closely of Jīvaka—because of his sins, the king did not think the Tathāgata would shine light upon him, hence this question; Jīvaka answers that it is not [another light]. Second, the king asks who emitted it, and Jīvaka replies it is the Buddha's light. There are four distinct clauses: (1) clarifying that this light is emitted by the Buddha: manifesting the light of teaching from the Buddha's body of the equal Dharma-gate is called emitting; the Buddha's light is constantly steady, and the king only now sees it, hence it is said to be emitted; (2) distinguishing the true nature of the light: this light is rootless, up to not being white; (3) clarifying the mark of the light: it manifests for the sake of deliverance; (4) sweeping away marks to reveal reality: though this light is such, it is truly invisible, up to not being white.
