前中，德王初先為問，後佛讚歎。問中，「如我解佛所說，是義不然」牒以總非。下廣顯非，先徵後難，於中有二：一正難破不聞聞義、二「凡是色」下彰實異相明不可聞。前中六句，初二一對約法有無，徵定所說，明聞、不聞不得並立；次二一對約就能聞所聞之法亦為徵責，明聞、不聞不得並立；後二一對就時徵責，明聞、不聞不得並立。

In the first part, Virtuous King first asks a question, and afterwards the Buddha praises him. In the question, "According to my understanding of what the Buddha has said, this meaning is not so" restates to negate in general. Below, it extensively reveals the fault, first inquiring and then challenging, within which there are two: first, directly challenging and refuting the meaning of hearing the unheard; second, from "whatever is form" on down, showing the different marks of reality to clarify that it cannot be heard. In the former part there are six phrases: the first two form one pair, inquiring into and determining what was spoken in terms of the existence or non-existence of dharmas, clarifying that hearing and not hearing cannot stand simultaneously; the next two form one pair, also inquiring into and holding to account in terms of that which can hear and the dharmas that are heard, clarifying that hearing and not hearing cannot stand simultaneously; the final two form one pair, inquiring into and holding to account in terms of time, clarifying that hearing and not hearing cannot stand simultaneously.
