In the former, it first lists five kinds of nirvāṇa. Among the five, the first four speak of the pleasures of the desire realm as being nirvāṇa, and the last one proclaims the wholesome dharmas of the desire realm as being nirvāṇa. Contemplating the skeleton to eliminate greed: how is this a wholesome [dharma] of the desire [realm]? In this desire realm, contemplation practice of wisdom through reflection subdues fetters but does not sever them, and therefore it is called [of] the desire realm. Next, it clarifies that these five are small and not great. From "Why..." downward explains, clarifying that these five kinds are called nirvāṇa because they contrast with and counteract sudden afflictions; they are not ultimate extinction, which is why they are not great. "Because of hunger and thirst" reveals that the first is not great; "illness" reveals the second; "fear" reveals the third; poverty is omitted and not raised; "greed" reveals the fifth.
