Below, the Buddha first praises him, and afterwards directly answers him. Within the answer, first he distinguishes the small as different from the great; from "'Great' means inconceivable" downward, he explains the great as different from the small. In the former there are four: 1. establishing parables to distinguish them; 2. revealing the Dharma with reference to the parables; 3. explaining the aforementioned Dharma; 4. unpacking the aforementioned parables. First, listing the ten parables is the first section; "Nirvāṇa is also like this: there is nirvāṇa and great nirvāṇa" is the second section; from "How..." downward is the third section, wherein first he clarifies the small as different from the great; from "Only permanence, bliss, self, and purity are called great" downward reveals the great as different from the small. In the former, it first asks what nirvāṇa is, and below explains it in response. Within the explanation, it first clarifies that the nirvāṇa of the desire realm is small and not great; from "If ordinary persons..." downward clarifies that the nirvāṇa of severing fetters by ordinary persons and [followers of] the two vehicles is small and not great.
