7.240

善中，初言「如來先說若聞是經必得菩提」牒佛上言，佛前〈如來性品〉之中言聞是經定得菩提，故今牒之。「今云何」下徵破此言，「若得菩提」牒舉前義，「即是定」下徵此所說。就惡難中，「聞惡聲故則生惡心，生惡心故則至三塗」直立道理。「若至」已下徵破不定。

Regarding the good, it first says, "The Tathāgata previously said that if one hears this sūtra, one will definitely attain bodhi," citing the Buddha's previous words: the Buddha previously in the "Chapter on the Nature of the Tathāgata" said that hearing this sūtra one definitely attains bodhi, so now it is cited. From "Now how..." onward questions and refutes these words; "if one attains bodhi" cites the previous meaning; from "then it is definite..." onward questions what was said. In the challenge regarding the bad, "Because one hears bad sounds, bad thoughts arise; because bad thoughts arise, one arrives at the three wretched realms" directly establishes the principle. From "If one arrives..." onward questions and refutes the indefinite.
