In the third round, it reiterates leaving behind faults. What is the difference from the first? The former relies on the bodhisattva to clarify leaving behind slight evils; this relies on ordinary persons to reveal leaving behind grave faults. It also first establishes a simile. First, the simile of drawing near to a friend: 'like a person encountering illness' is the reason for drawing near to a friend; 'there is a good spiritual friend' illustrates the good friend, omitting the mark of drawing near; from 'and says...' onward illustrates hearing the correct Dharma; from 'that person wholeheartedly...' onward illustrates binding mindfulness and reflecting; from 'immediately goes there...' onward illustrates practicing as taught. In the application text below, it first applies drawing near to a friend, whereas the simile of hearing the Dharma is omitted and not applied; 'wholeheartedly having faith...' and so forth applies to clarifying contemplation: the bodhisattva contemplates that in order to benefit sentient beings they must abandon faults and seek escape, and therefore expounding the four immeasurable minds is 'binding mindfulness and reflecting.' From 'A lesser...' onward applies to clarifying cultivation and practice; the text can all be known.
