上來明友，下明近益，「若近知識未有戒」等，起行之益；「未有令有、已有令廣，復得了達十二部」等，生解之益。

The above clarifies the friend; below it clarifies the benefit of drawing near: 'If one draws near to a spiritual friend, what precepts one does not yet have...' and so forth is the benefit of giving rise to practice; 'causing what is not yet present to become present, causing what is already present to become extensive, and further being able to thoroughly penetrate the twelve divisions...' and so forth is the benefit of generating understanding.
