7.322

中六復次巧為益中，初二復次能化離過，次二復次能教生善，次一復次復化離過，下一復次復教生善。初二復次化離過中，前一化人令離惡因，後一化人令渡苦果。離惡因中，「佛及菩薩為大醫故名善知識」略以標舉，「何以」下釋。釋中，初法，次喻，後合，「以是」下結。令渡苦中，「如大船師」立喻顯法，次合，後結。

In the middle six repetitions on skillfully bringing about benefit: the first two repetitions are being able to transform [beings] to leave behind faults; the next two repetitions are being able to teach [beings] to generate goodness; the next one repetition is again transforming [beings] to leave behind faults; the next one repetition is again teaching [beings] to generate goodness. In the first two repetitions on transforming [beings] to leave behind faults: the preceding one transforms people to cause them to leave behind evil causes; the latter one transforms people to cause them to cross over painful results. Within leaving behind evil causes, 'Because buddhas and bodhisattvas are great physicians, they are called good spiritual friends' briefly indicates it; from 'Why is this?' onward explains it. In the explanation, first is the dharma, next the simile, then the application; from 'For this reason...' onward concludes. In causing them to cross over suffering, 'Like a great shipmaster...' establishes a simile to illustrate the dharma, next is the application, and then the conclusion.
