上來廣明聞法有益，自下引說證成有益，文別有四：一明聽法能離五蓋、二能離畏、三能離癡、四滅苦惱。就初段中，「我處處說聽離五蓋」明有所離，「修七覺分」明有所起，「以修七」下明有所成。

The preceding has extensively explained that hearing the Dharma is beneficial; from here onward, it quotes teachings to verify that it is beneficial. The text has four distinct parts: first, explaining that listening to the Dharma can free one from the five hindrances; second, that it can free one from fear; third, that it can free one from delusion; and fourth, that it extinguishes suffering and affliction. Within the first section, "In various places I have taught that listening frees one from the five hindrances" clarifies what is abandoned; "cultivating the seven factors of awakening" clarifies what is aroused; from "by cultivating the seven..." onward clarifies what is accomplished.
