In the third question, he clings to the body and wisdom at the place where delusions are severed being precisely nirvāṇa, raising an objection to refute the earlier [statement that] nirvāṇa is like space, having no dwelling place. "If severance is not it" anticipates the Buddha's intention, fearing that when questioned, the Buddha might say that the body at the place where delusions are severed is not nirvāṇa, and therefore raises an objection against it. "Why did the Tathāgata formerly tell Jātismara: 'My present body is precisely nirvāṇa'?" cites the teaching to question him: if he formerly said the body is it, how could it be said above that nirvāṇa is like space, having no dwelling place?
