From here below, through question and answer it re-elucidates the preceding meaning of liberation of mind. Why must it be elucidated? If the mind definitely has greed, it cannot be liberated; if the mind definitely has no greed, it does not need to be liberated; only when it is non-existent in nature yet existent in characteristics is there the meaning of liberation, hence it must be explained again. Virtuous King first asks: "As the Buddha stated, liberation of mind is not so," citing it to negate it generally; the passage beginning with "why is that?" extensively illuminates the meaning of negation. First he investigates the intention of negation, and below he demonstrates it in response; the text contains three distinct parts: first, based on the true mind, clarifying that it originally lacks greed, objecting that there is no liberation; second, from "greed also exists" onward, based on the deluded mind, clarifying that it originally has greed, objecting that there is no liberation; third, from "the mind is not fixed" onward, clarifying that the mind and greed, person and objects are all unfixed, objecting that there is no liberation. Among the three poisons, he sets up objections based on greed; the rest may be understood by analogy.
