第二句中，舉佛、菩薩，類破凡有。「若凡心中本無貪性，後方有者，諸佛、菩薩本無貪相，今悉應有」，佛、菩薩無，不可使有。凡心本無，何緣得有？

In the second clause, he raises the buddhas and bodhisattvas to analogously refute the ordinary person's having it: "If the ordinary mind originally lacks the nature of greed and only has it later, then the buddhas and bodhisattvas originally lacked the mark of greed and now should all have it"; since the buddhas and bodhisattvas lack it, it cannot be made to exist. If the ordinary mind originally lacks it, by what cause could it come to exist?
