In the latter three clauses, each first establishes a simile and then matches it to clarify non-existence; the text is evident and can be understood. In the latter one clarifying that delusion does not defile the true, "one should know that greed and the mind have two distinct principles, and even if [greed] existed, how could it defile the mind?" doctrinally states non-defilement. Greed is deluded while the mind is true, and the true and deluded are two different things, hence it says they are distinct. Because they are distinct, even if there were a fetter of greed, it could not defile that mind of true consciousness. Next is the simile, and then the correspondence.
