第三段中，初先法說。「首楞五名」總以標舉，次列五名。雖舉五名，正欲明其是佛性義。「隨其所作處處得名」總以結之。次以喻顯。「如一三昧得種種名，或名為禪、或名定根」如是非一。「首楞如是」辯法同喻。

In the third section, first there is the exposition through dharma. "The five names of the Śūraṅgama" sets forth the general designation, and next the five names are listed. Although five names are raised, the main purpose is to clarify its meaning as the buddha-nature. "It receives its name in various places in accordance with what it performs" provides the general conclusion. Next, it is illustrated with a metaphor: "Just as a single samādhi receives various names, being called dhyāna or the faculty of concentration," and so forth, not being singular. "The Śūraṅgama is likewise" shows that the dharma corresponds to the metaphor.
