There are four kinds of tranquillity: first it raises them, and next it lists them. As for 'bliss of departure', it is called 'bliss of renunciation' in the Bodhisattvabhūmi. Renouncing the household life to learn the Path and being liberated from the hardships of the household is called 'bliss of renunciation'. 'Bliss of tranquillity' is called 'bliss of seclusion' in the Bodhisattvabhūmi. Leaving behind desire and evil to attain the concentration of the first dhyāna is called 'bliss of seclusion'. 'Bliss of eternal cessation' is called 'bliss of calm cessation' in the Bodhisattvabhūmi. Beginning with the second dhyāna, where coarse and subtle examination are stilled, is called 'bliss of calm cessation'. 'Bliss of the ultimate' is called 'bliss of bodhi' in the Bodhisattvabhūmi. The undefiled noble path cutting off afflictions forever is called 'bliss of the ultimate'. Among these four blisses, the first is morality, the middle two are concentration, and the last is wisdom. 'Attaining the four' is the general conclusion.
