In the application, "The treasure mountain illustrates nirvāṇa" and so forth corresponds to the first section above. From "The person encountered" downward corresponds to the second section. From "One person returned" downward corresponds to the third section, where it first directly corresponds to the two people progressing and regressing, and below discusses the nature, clarifying that although the person regresses, the nature remains permanently unchanged. Therein, there is first the doctrine, next the simile, and then the application. From "On the path to bodhi there is ultimately no regression" downward corresponds to the fourth section of the regressing person later attaining it. It first sets forth the principle: that there is ultimately no regression on the path to bodhi means that although one regresses, one returns again and will necessarily attain it. Next it adduces the earlier simile, and the subsequent application can be understood. The preceding simile and application together form the second part, adducing attainment to reveal existence. From here downward is the third part, concluding the existence of the nature: "Because of the meaning that people with a regressing mind ultimately attain it, in my sūtra it is said that all possess the nature."
