下佛答之。答意如何？明前喻者但取少分，非是全喻。文中有四：一舉八喻彰其所異；二「凡所引喻不必盡」下，立少分喻，彰其所同；三「離水無」下，准於前法更立異喻；四「若欲得合彼燈喻」下，唯於前喻更立異法。

Below, the Buddha answers him. What is the meaning of the answer? It explains that the preceding analogy only takes a partial aspect, not being a complete analogy. In the text there are four parts: first, adducing eight analogies to reveal their differences; second, from "whenever an analogy is cited, it does not necessarily exhaust" onward, establishing partial analogies to reveal their commonality; third, from "apart from water there is no" onward, establishing a different analogy on the model of the preceding dharma; fourth, from "if you wish to match that lamp analogy" onward, establishing a different dharma solely with respect to the preceding analogy.
