From "The aggregates of a srotāpanna perish here" downward, [the Buddha] turns back to answer the first difficulty. He first answers the point in the first [difficulty] that the aggregates of a srotāpanna perish here and do not reach an evil country, clarifying that what is subsequently received is still the aggregates of a srotāpanna and does not completely fail to reach it. In the text, first is the doctrine, next the analogy, and finally the application. From "Suppose there is a person" downward, he answers the point in the first difficulty that cultivating the Path likewise does not reach an evil country, clarifying that it is regained later and does not completely fail to reach it. First, an analogy is established: "Suppose a person is immensely wealthy" is an analogy for the srotāpanna possessing noble virtues in the present. "He has only one son" is an analogy for the srotāpanna currently creating karma for the next birth. "[The son] has already died earlier" is an analogy for the karma of that birth having arisen and already passed away. "That son has a son in another land": the future fruit produced by that karma is called the son having a son. Because the fruit will arise in the future, it is said to be "in another land." "That person dies" is an analogy for the passing away of the srotāpanna's present retribution. "The grandson hears of this and takes over his estate" is an analogy for the unoutflowing attainment arising in the srotāpanna's Pathless body, obtaining the noble Path cultivated in the past. Because the noble Path attained was cultivated in the past and not now, it is called "knowing the wealth and goods." Because it was not created by him and its attainment is unobstructed, it is called "taking it without anyone preventing or protecting it." The explanation below beginning with "Why?": the continuum [...] is called "the clan being one." The matching explanation below can be understood.
