Within concentration, the inferior is also first raised to reveal the superior: first a question, next a differentiation, and finally a conclusion showing the error. From "What is true [concentration]?" downward, the superior surpassing the inferior is differentiated: first a question, then a differentiation. "First, for the sake of beings..." and so forth clarifies benefiting others, comprising twelve distinct clauses. From "Performing such practices..." downward, self-benefit is shown. "Not perceiving samādhi" means not perceiving the essence of concentration, its essence being the mental factors of concentration. "Not perceiving marks" means not perceiving the mark of the quietude of the concentrated mind. The rest can be understood. From "If one can..." downward is the conclusion.
