8.41

第五難中，「若因佛性發菩提」者直舉道理，「何故為說十二部經」責佛為說。「譬如」已下廣明有性自然得佛，成說不應。有兩復次，前中先喻，後合顯法。「菩提之心亦如是」者，明諸眾生但一發心，佛性力故自然得佛，如河赴海，不假如來為說方得。後中，先喻，下合可知。

In the fifth objection, 'If on the basis of the buddha-nature one generates bodhi' directly puts forward the principle. 'Why preach the twelve divisions of scripture for their sake?' criticizes the Buddha for teaching. From 'For example' onward, it elaborates that possessing the nature naturally leads to attaining buddhahood, establishing that preaching is inappropriate. There are two iterations. In the first, there is first the metaphor, and afterward the application reveals the Dharma. 'The mind of bodhi is also like this' explains that when sentient beings merely generate the resolve once, by the power of the buddha-nature they naturally attain buddhahood, just as rivers flow to the ocean, not needing the Tathāgata to teach for their sake before attaining it. In the second, there is first the metaphor, and the application below can be understood.
